V.1.1-V.1.5 Changelog

Version 1.5 is out!

I avoided uploading versions 1.1-1.4 to Itch, as the assignment was still being graded and I didn't want it to appear as though I was trying to work on it past the deadline ^^; I'll detail all of the changes in each version here though!

V.1.1 - Updated 10/30/23

The game keeps track of visited endings! On the ending screen, you can see which endings you've discovered already, and when you replay the game, these endings will be remembered.

Added a sidebar! In this version, it contained a "Restart" button, to allow you to go back to the beginning at any point, as well as a "Skip text" button that appeared after the player had completed at least one ending and jumped to a specific passage, shortly before the passage with several decisions. A bug existed at the time where the sidebar would disappear during certain passages because of how they were created internally.

V.1.2 - Updated 10/30/23

The "Skip text" button now skips to the next important branch, rather than resetting to a specific passage regardless of where the player is. The button also disappears again once you enter a branch you have not yet seen the ending of, to make sure you don't accidentally skip through it. There are certain cases where the button will skip through text that hasn't been seen yet, but it will not skip important decision-making passages. The button will reappear once you reach an ending.

V.1.3 - Updated 10/31/23

The previously seen passages section received a makeover! The text is darkened in the area, and if there are more than three previous passages in this section they are hidden with a "..." indicator. Because of this, text is a lot less likely to flow off the screen (though it is still possible on smaller screens).

V.1.4 - Updated 11/01/23

Removed the unnecessary padding being added to the previous passages display. This comes at the sacrifice of there not being padding between the previous passages and the current one that I could not figure out how to fix.

When being taken to a new page, a clickable "Show more" button appears, that can be used to show text from the previous page. The impact of new pages is still there, but you can still read backwards a few passages for a refresher.

A "Credits" button now exists in the sidebar; it displays my name as well as a link to the document where you can learn more about the world these characters are from. It can be clicked to show/hide this info.

V.1.5 - Updated 11/10/23

Music! The game now plays music along with every passage. The music intensity dynamically changes to match the background text color and the setting of the story. The music was written and produced by me using Ableton.

A "Volume" button was added to the sidebar that can be clicked to toggle the volume display and allow the player to adjust the volume. You can completely mute the music by setting the volume to 0.

A "Reset" button was added to the sidebar that completely resets the game, forgetting info like previously seen passages. Usually, refreshing the page will remember which passage you last read and your seen endings, but this information will clear that data. Because of this, a dialog box confirming your choice will appear before proceeding to reload the page.

Aaaand that's all, folks! Please let me know what you think or if you catch any errors! I've had a lot of fun working on this over the past couple of weeks, and I would love to hear about how I can improve on this idea, what you liked, or anything you think should be added. I hope you have fun playing!
